The mission of SASS is to educate Licking County on the importance of early detection as a key to breast cancer survival and provide those diagnosed with breast cancer the assistance to maintain and improve their quality of life.

About Breast Cancer

An estimated 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the United States during 2007. An estimated 40,460 women will die from breast cancer. It is estimated that 2,030 men will be diagnosed and 450 men will die of breast cancer during 2007. In addition to invasive breast cancer, 62,030 new cases of in situ breast cancer are expected to occur among women in 2007. Of these, approximately 85 percent will be ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

Early detection of breast cancer saves lives!  Mammograms save lives by reducing the incidence rate of advanced breast cancer.

Breast Cancer in Licking County

Each year an average of 98 Licking County residents are diagnosed with breast cancer. In the same year, 26 Licking County residents will die as a result of breast cancer.

Summer Update Event

 

The Licking County Health Department is pleased to announce the Annual SASS Summer Update for Breast Cancer Survivors in Licking County.  This will be held at Cherry Valley Lodge on Saturday, June 26, 2010.  If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with breast cancer, join other local survivors and get the latest updates on breast cancer.  Registration for this event is free for local breast cancer survivors and a caregiver (sister, friend, mother, spouse, etc.).  Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
